Félix De Moya Anegon

User main profile

Ph.D. in Philosophy and Letters (Geography and History) from the University of Granada since 1992.

Dr. de Moya-Anegón is the main researcher of the Associated Unit known as Grupo SCImago, which has carried out ambitious R+D projects including the “Scimago Journal & Country Rank-SJR” (a joint research effort with Elsevier-Scopus), and “Atlas de la Ciencia” (funded through the research+development+innovation project SEJ-2004-08358-C02-01/SOCI of Spain´s Ministry of Education and Science, and Acción Complementaria SEJ2005-24008-E). At the moment, this project is expanding in Ibero-America, taking in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Venezuela, and the geographical scope may be broadened in the near future; related projects are “Ranking Iberoamericano de Instituciones de Investigación-RI3” (with funding from Universia) and “Mi perfil Investigador-MPI” (with a subvention from the Fundación Española de Ciencia y Tecnología-FECYT). Collaboration with other research teams (Universidad de Extremadura, Universidad Carlos III, Universidad de Alcalá and Universtitat Oberta de Catalunya) has been vital for the success of these projects.

The intensive research activity of Dr. de Moya-Anegón has led him to undersign a number of collaboration agreements with diverse national entities (FECYT, Junta de Andalucía, Principado de Asturias, Consorcio de Bibliotecas Públicas de Galicia, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, and others) as well as international organizations (CONICYT, CONACYT, REDALyC, IESALC, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Universidad de Antioquia…) that have contributed to in elaborating technical reports on internationally visible scientific output at different aggregate levels.

He has also taken part in four European projects directly related with e-learning: VALUE: Vinculación y Valorización mutua entre universidades de America Latina y de la Union Europea. MASSIVE: Modelling Advice and Support Services to Integrate the Virtual component in Higher Education. VICTORIOUS: VIrtual Curricula ThrOugh Reliable InterOperating University Systems. And finally, REVE: Real Virtual Erasmus.

The professional career of Félix de Moya-Anegón is based on two solid pillars: on the one hand, his outstanding research profile, giving rise to numerous papers in national and international journals of prestige and impact; and on the other hand, his work as director since 1989 at the University of Granada, first in charge of the School of Library and Information Science (Facultad de Biblioteconomía y Documentación), and afterwards as Vice-rector of Service to the University Community. In December of 2007 he completed the mandate as Vice-rector of New Technologies. Under the auspices of this Vice-rectorate was the University Library of the University of Granada, renowned for its adoption of technological advances in two main areas: access to electronic information on the part of users, and projects of digitalization of old books and doctoral dissertations.

Among the most noteworthy managing duties related with the library realm we have his membership to the Andalusian Council of Libraries and Documentation Centres since 2006, and presidency of the Consortium of Andalusian University Libraries since 2001. He is also member of the Council of Directors of European Foundation for Quality in eLearning. Meanwhile, he has been part of the editorial committee of the journal Scientometrics (Editor: Akadémiai Kiadó, co-published with Springer Science+Business Media B.V., ISSN: 0138-9130) since October 2007, and acts as consultant for projects CINCEL of Chile, CONACYT of Mexico, and the BECYT project of Spain´s Fundación Española de Ciencia y Tecnología. At present, Dr. de Moya-Anegón is a research professor of the CSIC (Spain´s Higher Council of Scientific Research) in Madrid.

During his time as the Department Chair in the University of Granada, he imparted classes in Systems of Automatic Representation and Processing of Knowledge at the University School of Communication and Documentation. He was professor and coordinator of the Master´s Degree in Scientific Information: Processing, Access and Evaluation (910/56/1); and previous to that, taught the doctoral program in Documentation and Scientific Information of the Department of Library and Information Science of the University of Granada, and the doctoral programs  Documentation and Scientific Information (imparted at the Universidad Portucalense Infante D. Henrique, Oporto-Portugal] (910/99/4)and Documentation and Scientific Information (given at the Universities of Havana, Camagüey and/or Santiago) (910/99/5).

In parallel, Félix de Moya-Anegón was professor in the Master´s program in Information Processing organized by the Centre of Continued Formation at the University of Granada, and in 1998 was director and professor of the course “The Evaluation of Science" given at the Centro Mediterráneo (Motril) of the University of Granada. The year before he had directed and taught a Graduate course at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires: "Quantitative Techniques in Bibliometric Research" and was likewise director and professor of the Graduate course at the University of La Plata (Argentina). As a guest professor, he has taught in the Doctoral Program of Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. This intensive activity in graduate education is also reflected in the 29 Ph.D. theses that he has directed.

His main lines of research are: Advanced techniques for information retrieval in the development of Information Systems in real time; Techniques for the visualization of scientific information oriented to the design of interfaces, and the analysis and evaluation of scientific domains; Scientometric analysis of different domains oriented toward the resolution of specific problems; and Information system design in the realm of scientometrics and in aiding decision-making processes.
