Institutional design in comparative regional organization (InDeCRI)

Why do regional organizations adopt certain institutions in their design? This project responds this question. For this, it analyzes the cases of six different institutions (democracy protection clauses, supranational citizenship/electoral rights for the direct election of regional parliaments; domestic constitutional reception of integration commitments; electoral observartion bodies, South/South cooperation and institutions for security and defence) in four Latin America integration organizations (Mercosur, Unasur, Comunidad Andina-CAN- and SICA). The project inquiries...

EVONATUR

The implementation of reforms in decentralized healthcare systems raises a number of particularly complex challenges, especially when those reforms refer to the definition of eligibility criteria of those systems. Since the General Health Law (LGS) was passed in 1986, and until the entry into force of the General Public Health Act (33/ 2011) in January 2012, the Spanish National Health System (SNS) experienced a gradual expansion of its range of coverage, to include almost all of the resident population of Spain. The approval of the RD 16/2012 in April 2012 constituted...

Researchers: Main researcher: Vincenzo Pavone (IPP-CSIC) Recent advances in genetic studies and genomics have had a far-reaching impact on the direction of biomedical research and discussions of healthcare policy prospects (Andrews 1994; Kaufert 2000; Abel et al. 2005; Patlak and Levit 2010). These new technologies also constitute the core of an emerging tissue-based bioeconomy (Waldby and Mitchell 2006). Bioeconomies will not grow spontaneously, the OECD (2009) warned: they require that appropriate regulations, adequate investment, human resources, social acceptance, and...
Researchers: Main researcher: Laura Cruz-Castro. Other researchers: Luis Sanz Menéndez, Natalia Zinovyeva, Gemma Derrick, J. Alberto Benitez Amado, Kenedy Alva. This project aims to provide novel evidence on the organization and policy of academic promotion. Different examples of how academic promotion is organized exists both in Europe and across the Atlantic. Despite this, there is a lack of empirical evidence on the effectiveness of different promotion systems in regards to generating high quality research outputs and creating stimulating, meritocratic environments. This project aims to...

This Project aims to analyse the main reasons explaining the persistent gender inequalities in political interest, knowledge, and behaviour in Spain. There is abundant evidence that demonstrates significant differences in the levels of political...
Researchers: Main researcher: Marta Fraile (CSIC) Other researchers: Mónica Ferrín (Collegio Carlo Alberto), Gema García (UAM), Martiño Rubal (European Training Foundation). This Project aims to analyse how much do Spaniards know about political, and socioeconomic reality in Spain, giving a special focus on gender differences. There is abundant evidence that demonstrates significant differences in the levels of knowledge about politics between men and women. Four different lines of research has tried to explain this perplexing result but no one has arrived to a definitive...
